Cyprus economic sentiment up 2 pts

Cyprus business sentiment improved in August in line with an increase in economic sentiment, a survey showed on Tuesday.

The economic sentiment indicator (ESI) rose 2 points to 73 units in August compared with July's reading. The improvement was attributed mainly to an upturn in sentiment in the services sector in light of current and expected demand, as well as economic conditions for businesses over the past three months.

The survey, compiled by the University of Cyprus, recorded a very slight recovery in consumer sentiment in August.

Retail trade remained at the same negative level for the third consecutive month, while the construction sector saw a slight downturn.
